The owner of this award-winning project is Tenerife Football Club, a long-standing powerhouse in Spain’s professional Second Division. As a professional sports venue with high local visibility and influence,the venue has high electrical loads, frequent equipment operation, and stringent requirements for power supply stability. It demands extremely high standards for the reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness of the photovoltaic-storage system, making it a widely recognized high-difficulty commercial and industrial application scenario within the industry.
The load characteristics of Tenerife Football Club’s stadium are quite typical: PV power generation is concentrated during the day; peak electricity consumption occurs between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM, with lighting and air conditioning loads rising significantly during the evening;Additionally, the local grid enforces a “zero net metering” policy, prohibiting the feeding of surplus solar power into the public grid, which easily leads to a waste of solar resources; In the event of a sudden power outage at the venue, daily training and match schedules are severely disrupted.
The project deployed three sets of SAJ CHS2 hybrid grid-connected and off-grid photovoltaic-storage systems (50 kW/100 kWh)

SAJ’s project has undergone nearly two years of round-the-clock, high-frequency real-world testing, with all metrics comprehensively outperforming industry standards and exceeding simulation expectations:
1. Power generation efficiency exceeded expectations, maximizing resource utilization
In its first year, the project generated a cumulative total of 334 MWh, with an equivalent utilization of 1,330 hours; actual power generation exceeded authoritative PV-Syst simulation data by 7.7%. Leveraging CHS2 intelligent energy storage dispatch, the project perfectly resolved the challenge of curtailed solar power under zero-feed-in policies, maximizing the consumption of clean solar power.
2. Extremely stable energy storage operation with high efficiency throughout the entire lifecycle
The system completes an average of one full charge-discharge cycle per day, consistently maintaining a 90% depth of discharge; total discharge in the first year reached 89.71 MWh, precisely achieving the energy time-shifting principle of “storing solar energy during the day and discharging during evening peak hours,” perfectly aligning with the club’s electricity consumption patterns.
3. Greater Peace of Mind Regarding Power Supply
In the event of an unexpected power outage, the energy storage system seamlessly switches to off-grid mode, providing continuous power to critical loads such as stadium lighting and charging stations. This ensures that sporting events and basic power needs remain unaffected, delivering stable and reliable energy supply.
4. High Returns Without Subsidies: Tangible Economic Benefits
Through self-generation and self-consumption, combined with peak-off-peak electricity price arbitrage, the system achieves average annual electricity cost savings of 15,250 euros. Without any government subsidies, the energy storage system has a static payback period of less than five years, setting a benchmark for ultra-high returns in energy conservation and consumption reduction for commercial sports venues and industrial and commercial facilities.
5. Minimal O&M, Zero Failures and Zero Cost Pressure Throughout the Entire Lifecycle
No major equipment failures or customer complaints throughout the entire operation; annual routine maintenance takes less than 8 hours, with annual maintenance costs below 250 euros. Leveraging the elekeeper Smart Energy Management Platform for remote real-time monitoring and intelligent prediction of potential issues, the system achieves unattended, long-term, and stable operation.
Actual test data indicates there is still room to expand the existing energy storage capacity. Increasing the storage scale will allow for the absorption of more surplus solar power, further amplifying energy-saving benefits and providing a reference for capacity expansion in similar venue projects.
