-Project Overview

KernKindCentrum (KKC) Maastricht-West, located in the Netherlands, has officially opened as a pioneering educational hub combining primary schools and childcare services. More than just a learning space, KKC is a showcase of what sustainable infrastructure can achieve.

The facility is powered by SAJ’s CHS2 Commercial & Industrial Energy Storage System, enabling full off-grid operation — making it the largest standalone school-based energy storage demonstration project in the Netherlands to date.

-Project Highlights

Full Energy Autonomy

Approximately 1,500 m² of rooftop solar panels and a 1.2MWh battery system provide year-round clean electricity, freeing the building from reliance on the public grid.

Solving Grid Congestion

With much of the Dutch grid already at capacity, this project stores solar energy on-site instead of feeding it back, avoiding curtailment and proving the value of localized energy resilience.

Sustainability Meets Education

Real-time energy monitoring displays allow students to track the building’s solar production and consumption — making clean energy part of the daily learning experience.

-CHS2 System Highlights

The CHS2 system is the core of this project, bringing advanced performance and smart features suited for dynamic campus needs:

5A high current input for compatibility with high-power PV modules
6 MPPTs, supporting up to 200% PV oversizing for optimal solar harvest
Intelligent load management with microgrid support
Modular plug-and-play design for easy installation and scalability
IP55 battery / IP66 inverter protection with smart thermal control for outdoor durability

More than just a product, CHS2 is a foundational energy solution ideal for schools, elder care centers, and smart energy hubs — driving sustainable urban development.
